False Alarm

So much for getting an early nights sleep, just drifting off and the fire-alarm sounded. False alarm so no need to worry!

Buildings like the one I’m in have come under flack recently due to the fact they’ve been built with only one emergency stairwell. However, after today I’m pretty reassured. The fire-alarm consists of an automated voice telling you where the fire-alarm has been triggered, the best course of action (actually tells you to stay put if you prefer in some cases), and that the fire service is on it’s way. All rooms are fitted with spinkler systems, firedoors and windows which open automatically in case of smoke/fire

By the time I had walked down 16 floors, three fire engines had arrived. Not bad going. Sorry about the photos being blurred, half asleep when I took them…

V8

Spotted this from my balcony, and so had to get a closer look…

There’s actually a few of these beasts cruising around Auckland, due to the fact the US is a lot closer here and importing isn’t as much of a mission. Paying for the petrol probably is. Still, makes up for the alarming number of yellow cars in this country.

Spring

First day of spring…

This is Western Springs, just next to Auckland Zoo. The spring which supplies the lake is one of Auckland’s first water supplies. Nice place to spend a sunny day, but what makes this place interesting comes to light with the lake’s Maori name ‘Te Wai Orea’

This means “Waters of the Eel”

The whole lake is teeming with native orea (eel) and are tame enough to be coaxed to take food.

Che-Fu

The guys at Bunker have been working on this video for NZ rapper/singer Che-Fu:

It involved some serious hours and late nights for them, but as you can see it payed off! Che-Fu is probably the leading figure in NZ hip-hop and last night he held a gig over on K-Road. Highlight was the Bunker guys getting a shout-out for all their hardwork on the project from Che and the video being projected above stage.
