Tango

North Head

Woke up to a beautiful sunday morning, so decided to head down to the beach. Unfortunately, as soon as the sun tan lotion went on, so did the showers.

Met up with Matt from Bunker and we drove over to Devonport. Probably should have taken the ferry, 8 minutes by boat, instead of 30 minutes by car due to the one bridge linking the north shore to downtown.

Headed up the North Head mound, which I’ve been meaning to do for ages. It’s been used as look out post since the first Maori settlers in New Zealand, right through till World War 2. Canons were placed on North Head during the late 1800s, after rumours of an invasion by the Russian Navy. An extensive bunker system was built, which can still be explored today:

All this built by prisoners, using picks & shovels or failing that just hands…

The invasion of the Russians, or later the Japanese in WW2, never came, and now it’s a park for the public. Rumour has it there are 2 planes from the war buried in the mound…

Bobby’s Pad

I’ve had a few requests to see more of the flat.

Here’s the view over-looking the harbour, docklands, Waiheke island in the distance, and North head over to the left (white buildings on the mound)

Here’s that same view but in the opposite direction, from North head towards Auckland CBD. My apartment building is just left of the skytower:

Now for the weather. It can go from this:

to this, in a matter of minutes:

But when it rains, it rains!

You also get crazy guys like this working on roofs of 20 story buildings:
