48 Hours

Took part in the 48 film festival this weekend just gone. It’s a pretty big event here – with around 500 teams entering it from around the country. Your told your theme, a character you have to use, a piece of dialog and a prop on friday night. You then have the weekend to come up with, write, film, edit and post the entire short film.

I was to produce the titles and a tiny non-speaking role, so wasn’t real part of the main production, but it was good fun to be a part of.

There 180 films entered in Auckland alone – first heat is on tuesday. I’ll post the film once we have it online. Here’s a couple of stills of two of the more pretty cast members:

1 Year

So, one whole year on from me first arriving in New Zealand. The time has past quick – but a lot has happened in these 12 months.

Click back to this time last year on happy, and I was getting to know the guys and the store. I’ve chosen not to air what happened with the store and myself.

It didn’t work out.

Since then the store has closed down. Although part of me is still slightly bitter about how I was treated, it’s opened my eyes, taught me a valuable lesson and allowed me to work for bunkermedia, something I’m very grateful for.

I was told that “I would regret” leaving the store (although I was never under paid employment anyway).

Now, Bunker is taking over the old store, and turning it into our new studio. It’s a pretty odd feeling stepping back into a room I never thought I would again, the place I first came to from stepping off the plane, and now claiming it back.

Karma?

I was also sent this today in response for my claim for being a skilled migrant:

Selected from the Pool

Congratulations.

A group of us are celebrating the anniversary this weekend and going for an Indian.

Few more photos from the video shoot the other week.

Had a hectic week, worked on a proposal for a TV comedy series, all very hush hush so will let you know more when possible. Other than that – checked out a few more watering halls around Ponsonby. Mixed bunch which I guess is good, found a small spanish tapas style bar which may become the local…

Have been reading a fair amount recently – finally read Catch 22 and 1984, and a pretty good post-zombie outbreak book called World War Z. Also went to see 28 weeks later, which was a lot better than I had expected – go see it if you can.

Billboard

Above is a billboard over on Ponsonby road. It’s an ad for Special Features - the show I did the graphics and opening titles for last year. You probably can tell I didn’t create the billboard, which I’m a little gutted about as I would love’d to, especially when it’s my elements being used. Ahh well, next time.

Thanks Jax for the snap.

Latest Work – Spoon

3 day turn around on this project, 2 days on the build. Thanks to Ken for the 3D. I’m more than pleased about the outcome!
