West Coast & The Waitakere Ranges

Headed out West with Matt this Sunday, over the Waitakere ranges and out onto the rugged West Coast, with black-sand, big surf beaches. This is where they filmed the Oscar winning 1993 film the Piano – on Karekare beach.

Bondage

Have been kept busy this week – among other projects, I’ve been animating for an OZ client working for a UK client. Good project to work on. Another project is the post on the James Bond-esq music video we filmed way back in April I think. Here’s a couple of shots, thought it would interesting to show you the untouched green screen stuff and the re-worked. Strictly speaking this isn’t the final shots, as it’s just visual reference I knocked up for the guys to composite and generally make look nice. Had the first few shots come back to us and looks great. Can’t wait for the final video.

Aotearoa Reading

nzbooks.jpg

Was given two great books for Birthday Presents – “Instant Maori” from Dylan and Mel, and one of the country’s biggest seller’s “The Penguin History of New Zealand” by Michael King from Luke and Nicole. Instant Maroi is a great little reference book for Maori versions of “what;s your name” “Sorry I;m late” “Shut up!” and the like. I’ve struggled (as I believe most newly arrived English people do) with Maori pronunciations and place names, but this book is helping me out. The History Of New Zealand is the bible of Aotearoa Past – it’s intimidating at first, being about 600 pages, but I’ve got through about half of it in 3 days. It’s a great read, the facts laid out, among which NZ being the last place in the World to be discovered and settled by humankind, but the first to introduce full democracy.
