37-20

click here for a much bigger version

It was great to finally see an All Blacks game, and against England. The first half was fairly close, England even going ahead 6-3 at one point, but the ABs just took control, especially in the second half and it ended 37-20. Pretty good atmosphere, with plenty of poms (probably mostly ex-pats), but one things for sure it’s no football. Singing is pretty much non-existent. However, you can buy booze, so watching the game with a beer in your hand helps! England’s man of the match was this guy – Topsy Ojo, who managed two tries on his international debut

Kiwi Knights defeating the English in the pre-match show. Slightly historically inaccurate…

The sky tower hasn’t been lit up for the past few days, and before that only for a few hours at night. Something to do with the power shortages. They need to light that sucker up. Four flashing red lights does not a landmark make. Either that or they were saving the pennies to pay for the couple of hours Eden Park stadium needed to be lit up.

About 45,000 people attended the game which is pretty near full capacity. They need to take this up to 60,000 for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, but the stadium is surrounded by houses and a brand new stadium build on the waterfront was vetoed.

a slightly better looking New Zealand team…

And the part you all you want to see, the Haka:

2 Years

Well it was second anniversary in New Zealand a couple of weeks ago, and to mark it I’ve partaken in two slices of Kiwiana – been to my first All Blacks game, and saw my first (living) weta. He was just outside the flat on the decking. A tree weta (or tokoriro) – not one of the giant species, but still a pretty big beast. He disappeared quickly so only managed to get this scrambled blurred shot
